Monaco Expansion

The city-state of Monaco is dramatically perched over the Mediterranean and is famously lacking in buildable area. This proposal explored the possibility of constructing an artificial peninsula into the Mediterranean, accommodating over 30 new residential mid-rise buildings, designed in collaboration with Foster + Partners and Robert A.M. Stern Architects. The geometry evolved from a linear expression into an organic form as the design progressed. In the development of the individual building concepts, special attention was given to the iconic ellipse building located at the end of the peninsula, featuring terra-cotta balconies and folding wood sunshades.
